This year I’m also focusing on calling for a study into the ongoing dispossession of Indigenous peoples from their ancestral lands and waters.

This is in response to our federal government’s plans to forcibly relocate -150-200 remote Aboriginal communities in Australia.  They intend to cut the water and electricity off from these communities to force them to move off their traditional lands and into large regional centres.  The Government tries to justify this by claiming Aboriginal communities aren’t economically viable.  Not surprisingly none of the non-Aboriginal communities are targeted.  It won’t increase these communities economic position but it will be devastating for thousands of community members and significantly it will expose previously communal lands to mining interests.
